CTG Brasil, one of the leaders in clean energy generation in the country, will release 1.325 million fish of the species piapara, curimbatá, pacu and lambari by March 26 in reservoirs of seven hydroelectric plants operated by the company on the Paranapanema River, on the border between the states of São Paulo and Paraná: Canoas I, Canoas 2, Chavantes, Capivara, Salto Grande, Jurumirim and Taquaruçu.

The releases began on March 13th and will continue until the 26th. “With this March action, we will reach a total of 1.45 million fish released in the Paranapanema river basin, which were scheduled for this year 2024. The previous releases were carried out between September and December 2023”, says Norberto Castro Vianna, Environment specialist at CTG Brasil.

The fish used in the restocking program are produced at the CTG Brasil Pisciculture, in Salto Grande (SP). In the laboratory, in addition to fish production, research is carried out in partnership with universities.

“The release of fish from native species is a way of collaborating with the development of these ecosystems, guaranteeing reproduction and fishing stocks”, adds Vianna.

Since 2016, when the company took over management of the program, around 25 million fish have been released in the Paraná and Paranapanema river basins.

About the program – The Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program, promoted by CTG Brasil, has Ibama authorization. Carrying out this program is a mitigation measure required by federal environmental licensing, conducted by Ibama, of the hydroelectric plants operated by CTG Brasil, and its objective is to repopulate and guarantee fish diversity through the production and release of native species.
