CTG Brasil neutralizes 100% of direct emissions for 2019
To make the idea of sustainability accessible to all the stakeholders, since 2017, CTG Brasil has prepared the Annual Sustainability Report. Following the indicators proposed by GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency in English), it has just launched its 2020 Annual Sustainability Report.
To achieve the Brazilian emission reduction targets assumed in the Paris Agreement, the generation of energy from renewable sources is essential. According to the statistics in the ASR, CTG Brasil, in addition to operating on a large scale in the generation of clean energy, seeks to go further and neutralized, in 2019, 100% of the direct emissions from its operations, through the purchase of Verified Carbon Units (VCU), granted by projects that preserve biodiversity in the Amazon and certified under VCU standards.
To find out the exact amount of emissions resulting from its activities, the company joined the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.
The second emissions inventory carried out by CTG Brasil for 100% of the operation referring to the performances of 2019, received the program’s Gold Seal. CTG Brasil’s direct emissions totaled 1,700 tons of CO2 equivalent and were 100% neutralized through UCVs acquired from the REDD + JARI AMAPÁ Project.
The initiative carries out activities for the sustainable use of the Amazon rainforest in an area of 220 thousand hectares. In addition to monitoring the entire extension – which is equivalent to that of the municipalities of São Paulo and Campinas together – the project conducts scientific researches, offers qualification courses in sustainable agro-extractive production and promotes responsible management of the territory, by extracting non-wood products and family farming.
