On May 22 and 24, CTG Brasil released 250,000 fishes of the pacu and curimbatá species in two batches into the reservoir of the Jupiá Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Paraná River. The action is part of the Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program of the company, with authorization from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), in order to repopulate and diversify the fish of native species.
The fish used in the restocking program are produced at the CTG Brasil's Fish Farm in Salto Grande. In the laboratory, in addition to fish production, research is carried out in partnership with universities.
“Releasing native species of fish is a way of collaborating with the development of these ecosystems, ensuring reproduction and fish stocks”, explains Norberto Castro Vianna, Environmental Specialist at CTG Brasil.
Since 2016, when CTG Brasil took over management of the program, around 25 million fish have been released in the basins of the Paraná and Paranapanema rivers.
