2019-11-16

On the morning of Oct. 28th, the opening ceremony for CTG-scholarship program was held in the Ganzhou campus of JXUST. 18 Pakistani students, together with faculty representatives of JXUST and management of CTG (China Three Gorges Group) attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Gong Yaoteng, vice president of JXUST stated that the "2+2" joint program for electrical engineering is a new mode of tripartite cooperation among universities, Confucius Institutes and enterprises to train local technical expertise. Through the implementation of the CTG Scholarship Program for Pakistani Students, the students’ relocation and implementation of education and poverty alleviation is being organically combined.

The "2+2" joint program for electrical engineering is a four-year study program fully funded by CTG Group, which has been initiated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) in collaboration with University of The Punjab, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and Confucius Institute.

A few key features of this scholarship program are as follows:

1. CTG Scholarship Program is the first fully funded scholarship program in Pakistan with long-term planning, which has been sponsored by Chinese-funded enterprises;

2. Two + two - the scholarship plan adopts the "two + two" cooperative school-running mode, that is, the local university in Pakistan (University of The Punjab) is undertaking the teaching tasks of the first two years, and the Chinese universities in China shall undertake the teaching tasks for the next two years;

3. Four-Party Cooperation - The scholarship program was initiated by the China Three Gorges Group, and the three universities i.e. Punjab University, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and Confucius Institute in China are jointly cooperating to undertake teaching and training;

4. Five-year plan--The scholarship program selects young people of the appropriate age to complete the undergraduate degree study in five batches starting from year 2017 till year 2022;

5. One hundred places - according to the scholarship plan selection criteria and student source conditions, CTG Group will provide up to one hundred full scholarships for affected families of the Karot and Kohala Hydropower Projects;

6. One million dollars - the scholarship program will invest at least one million dollars to ensure that the scholarship plan winners successfully complete their studies.

The CTG Scholarship Program was officially started back in 2017 under CTG Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. It aims to create a bright future for the youth directly affected by the Karot and Kohala hydropower projects through contributions in the form of scholarships for students belonging to the project affected areas.
